Online Math Class With Myfunscience.com
As my daughter entered 8th grade, I was looking for an online math class to review concepts from upper elementary and early middle school. During her elementary years, she was quite stubborn and the online math curriculum we used probably wasn’t the best fit for her personality. For 8th grade, she was prepared for challenge with Algebra 1, which she was enrolled with MrDMath (who I highly recommend by the way). The gap we needed to fill was in speed and just a review of basic computations- we found a math class with www.myfunscience.com.
The class I discovered was “2-4-6-8: You Can Learn To Do Math Great!” offered by MyFunScience.com. Although my daughter was on the upper age based on the class description, I decided it was worth a try.
Overview:
This online math course review included one semester (15 weeks) of instruction. Getting started was super simple- no specific materials were required (aside from computer with microphone and basic pencil and paper).
Organization:
One live, online 90-minute session was included each week. Classes were recorded if students could not attend the live session. The syllabus was extremely clear, straight-forward, and organized by topic. Personally, my favorite part was how assignments were divided by day– this course required absolutely NOTHING on my end (helpful for a working mom). My daughter could easily log in and complete her daily quiz / coursework in a few minutes and NEVER had to ask where or what to do. We had one week when she got locked out of an assignment and had to email her teacher-she received a response in just minutes. Literally, I never received any complaints or questions in 15 weeks from my daughter about math- amazing!
Value:
The online math course costs $249, which breaks down to $20.75 a week or $4.15 per daily assignment. If you consider the live instruction given per week (which was engaging and encouraged participation) and the daily graded assignments, this was incredible value!! Honestly, the confidence my daughter developed in basic math blossomed from this online review course.
Recommendation:
Geared to online students in upper elementary or middle school who want to boost their math abilities, I think any child who needs to build confidence, speed, and just requires a review of concepts will benefit from this e-learning course. We used it in addition to my daughter’s Algebra course- aside from the 90-minute live component, daily assignments took less than 15 minutes per day.
