Honestly, finding Mr. D math and his team was life-changing for our teenagers. If you read one review while picking an online math curriculum for your tween or teen, you must read this one!
Math can be incredibly frustrating for students, and most homeschooling or online schooling parents are not jumping up and down to teach Algebra. I certainly wasn’t. Online math classes for homeschoolers can lower the stress for the entire family- it’s one thing you can take off your plate. For us and so many others, it’s Mr. D online (www.mrdmath.com) to the rescue!

Personally, my kids struggled with homeschool math and actually hated it in elementary years and early middle school. It was incredibly frustrating to me and I just assumed they weren’t ‘math people’. I came across Mr. D Math by chance during the planning period for Pre-Algebra and Algebra and decided to give the summer short prep courses a try. All of a sudden, the sighing and complaining about math came to a screeching halt.
Maybe being a ‘math person’ is more dependent on the program and instruction than anything else.
I kid you not- his style and curriculum COMPLETELY changed my kids’ opinion of math. For us, we believe it’s one of the best online math programs available.

Important Note About Honors With Mr. D. Math:
Mr D Honors sections are available- we have not used that option, but it is worth exploring if your child is interested.
I wish he offered math for younger grades, but it is not currently an option. Otherwise, this is an extremely comprehensive middle school and high school math curriculum online.
What is the Schedule Like for Mr D Online Math?
Each course is available in a typical 2-semester set-up. Additionally, intensive Mr. D’s math summer courses are offered to provide 1 FULL year of math in 11 weeks OR intensive semester courses offer 1 full year of math in just a semester. The intensive options are wonderful for kids who love math and want to quickly advance OR for those who just need to redo or catch up.
Note that all courses are offered in pre-recorded modules with or without a live, online class. For those looking for a course approved by NCAA, you need to use the live version of online Mr D Math.
Summer:
Short summer MrDmath prep courses (6 weeks in duration) are also offered for most math subjects- perfect to take prior to the school year to get used to the format and content (and to keep the math brain moving all summer).
We have used these short prep options almost every year. Because of busy summer schedules, my kids couldn’t always attend the live sessions in the summer. That’s where the recordings and short instructional videos come in handy- they could work at their own pace and didn’t have brain drain for math.
Co-Op:
In selected cities, MrDmath offers an in-person Co-Op option in addition to the live, online curriculum.

Logging in to Mr. D Math:
Honestly, logging in is super simple and can be accessed right off the www.mrdmath homepage- there is not a separate learning platform.
Of all the online curriculum we have ever used, the format of this math program from Mr. D Math is the best! Students (and parents) can easily find their daily and weekly assignments, scores, and recordings.
What Are Some Features of MrDMath?
- Students can easily access their once-weekly LIVE online session (if you choose to participate in the ‘live’ and not ‘self-paced’ version of the math course.
- Learners can quickly access class notes to print and complete during the LIVE session.
- Students can easily print work at a chapter a time (12 chapters in all) to store in their own notebook to complete on a daily basis.
- Math students can access answers to their homework with work shown and videos to help with anything not well understood.
- Learners can complete daily quizzes, spiral reviews (important throughout the year to maintain mastery of concepts), take tests to ensure full understanding.
- Everyone can access links to extra online LIVE math help sessions (no need to ask parents for help- they can ask their expert teacher) and review class recordings.
- Parents and students can easily see their individual quiz / test scores as well as their ongoing total grade for the semester. Note that Mr D grading is very simple- it’s automated for ease of use.
How Much Does www.mrdmath.com Cost?
Full-year math classes are just under $200 with an additional $29 monthly fee if you opt for the ‘live’ option. Sibling discounts and returning student discounts are generally available. Summer ‘prep’ courses are just under $100. Other course prices are available on the site. NOTE: All course materials are included within the price with the exception of printing costs (minimal). I repeat, no need to purchase an expensive textbook or try to navigate an online textbook- all the resources are right on the site. In our opinion, it’s an extremely affordable math homeschool online.
What Are the Pros and Cons of www.mrdmath.com?
Pros:
- Students can retake quizzes to ensure mastery over online high school math material while avoiding the frustration feeling.
- As noted in the format section, course materials are exceptionally well organized.
- Educators are carefully selected and teach math in a unique manner that students love.
- Emails to parents are minimal, but provide recommendations for ‘check-ins’ at optimal times.
- Courses with a live component by Mr. D Math are NCAA approved. This is a HUGE bonus for us!
- Course material builds for each course and year, instilling confidence in learners as they progress.
- Mr. D. often poses fun video challenges or other activities to keep learners engaged.
Cons:

Our tweens/ teens have taken Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, and Algebra 2 via www.mrdmath.com. My previous math-loathing children NEVER complain about math and don’t require assistance from us.
