4 Ways For Gymnasts To Deal With Fear On Vault

One of the fun parts of online school is my kids can be my guest posters! Enjoy reading about how my daughter handled fear on vault in gymnastics.

Guest Post: Level 9 gymnast Adeline

When my daughter wrote this for a younger gymnast at her gym, I thought her four “ways” to deal with fear could translate into dealing with daily life for those of any age. Enjoy!

1) Visualizing. Visualizing helped me and still does help me keep my mind strong. Vault has always been the event that I have struggled on most (and still is) but visualizing has helped a lot. Visualize your vault that you want to accomplish every night before bed. With a strong mind you can do anything.😊

2) Take a step back. If you aren’t comfortable to do your vault yet, take a step back. Go someplace that you are confident where there are soft mats. Get supper comfortable where you can do your vault and practice it until you feel confident enough to go on the normal vault. Remember, it might take time. I can’t even explain how LONG my vault took to get. I had multiple times that I was considering giving up but that is definitely not the answer. You have plenty of time to get your vault and I PROMISE that it WILL come when you are ready.

3) Practice LOTS of drills. Drills will help you learn your vault correctly. It will definitely take time but trust me, it will be worth it! I know you probably already do a lot of drills but it is important that when you do it, you do them with the best form possible. Form is key!😉

4) Last thing is to BELIEVE IN YOURSELF! I know, it’s easier said than done right? Maybe so. But if you keep your mind set on your goal not your failures, you will go farther than you think you can go. Remember, you are going to mess up. You are going to have bad days where you are tired and you feel like giving up but those are the days that you get stronger! I know this is probably a lot of information but if you take it step by step, you will super successful! I still have bad days and I obviously mess up because I’m human, but if you keeping working hard, you will reach your goal and go farther than you ever thought! I hope that this helped you! You are an amazing gymnast! You got this! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r03J5Dw9qZI
